San Diego Music Museum

The San Diego Music Museum is located in La Jolla, CA. The building itself is a work of art, very old and in a Spanish mission style. Inside it was done out more like a library as depicted in the painting but what caught my eye was this magnificent pot standing in front of a Spanish style window between two bookshelves. Apart from it's huge size, there were two things that were absolutely captivating about this pot. One was the colors! Wow! Deep blue, deep bold red and it had a down-light above it lighting it up beautifully. The other was the entire thing was made of paper mache! Even the oddness of it's shape being non-symmetrical was the actual pot itself. I could not resist so many aesthetic factors all rolling into one subject. The final touches on the pot are done in gold paint.
Poppies

This huge painting was referenced from another design and cannot claim originality. But the painting is large and was done on an off-white background to give it a crisp clean look. The poppies are done entirely with a palette knife in a thick impasto style.

This hangs in a beautiful house in Chula Vista near the border of Mexico. I've always loved the bright colors of the Mexican tradition and am so glad this is complimenting a house and family with that heritage.

I was inspired to paint this on Anzac Day which marks the anniversary of the battle at Gallipoli. Red poppies are the symbol to wear on Anzac Day. In soldiers' folklore, the vivid red of the poppy came from the blood of their comrades soaking the ground.
