Scenic Rim 2
Commission from Los Angeles

"The Fly-Fisherman"
A commission painting that now resides in Texas. The scene is in Sun Valley Idaho in the fall. This is a larger painting done in oils on a linen canvas.

Boonah Plein Air
Painted on a blistering hot summer day in the beautiful scenic rim area of south eat Queensland. Oil on canvas

Scenic Rim
An impressionist painting on a farm in the scenic rim. Oil on canvas panel.

California Coastline
Trees are beautifully unique on the Californian coastline. These are gum trees but are a totally different colour to those in Australia - though artistically exaggerated.

Old Shed
A typical northern NSW farmland scene. Oil on board.

New Farm Park Series
This is a morning moment in the park that captured amazing light. oil on board.

Old Man Under the Poinciana
Painting no 7 for Sundays at New Farm Park Series. Oil on board 800x620. This is a compliment to the first Poinciana painting being the same size in the same colours - so a matching pair. I was taken by the full bloom of the Poinciana in the foreground but contrasted against the one solitary figure sitting there enjoying the beautiful setting. Someone commented ‘man verse tree’ - which was a humorous take on it.

Poinciana on an Overcast Day
Painting no. 6 for Sundays at New Farm Park Series. 800x620 oil on board. This tree was in absolute full bloom at the time. The concentration of red blossoms is not exaggerated. But I have cooled off the colours for the effect desired.

"Sundays at New Farm Park" No 5
“Sundays at New Farm Park”. Oil on board. 24 X 18
Painting no.5 for my exhibition next year. Credit to ‘britinbrisbane’ on Instagram who took the amazing photo I painted this from. When I saw this it occurred to me that this perspective has only ever been seen by drone. You can’t see it any other way. I love that it’s got everything from the park to the suburb of New Farm (my home), the Valley, the city, the mountains in the background and the beautiful sky all in one shot. Truly a beautiful city!
It’s an afternoon shot with the late sun creating a slightly golden ambiance. I tried to capture this with my colours.

"Sundays at New Farm Park" No 4
Oil on board 18x24 inches
The roses at New Farm Park are spectacular. With 2,500 roses currently, the council is looking to double this figure soon. The rose gardens are over 100 years old being established in 1914.

"Sundays at New Farm Park" No.3
16x20 inch oil on canvas.
No 3 for my exhibition later this year “Sundays at New Farm Park”. This is the croquet club (founded in 1907) in the late afternoon with the sun setting over the city in the background causing that beautiful diffused light coming through the trees. There’s something ‘old world’ about the croquet club. Probably the only thing that has changed is the player’s outfits.

"Sundays at New Farm Park" No 1
Painting for an exhibition that will be called “Sunday’s at New Farm Park”. This is the first of many. I live next to this park which has got to be the nicest in Brisbane and over 100 years old. Rose gardens, playgrounds, river, Croquet, tennis, jacarandas, poincianas. My aim to capture my paintings in a classical manner.
Oil on canvas.

"Sundays at New Farm Park" No 2
Second painting for an exhibition that will be called “Sunday’s at New Farm Park”. I’ll be mixing up the styles somewhat - this one I saturated the colours for a completely different effect.
I live next to this park which has got to be the nicest in Brisbane and over 100 years old. Rose gardens, playgrounds, river, Croquet, tennis, jacarandas, poincianas. My aim to capture my paintings in a classical manner.

Central Park in Fall
Oil on board 9x5 inches
This was painted for an exhibition only done on 9x5 inch boards - very small. One of the most romantic and atmospheric areas of Central Park New York is the row boats on the lake which people can hire for an hour or so. And this particular occasion we were there it was the tail end of the fall season. Its a challenge to capture a widescape on such a small scale but I was very happy with the outcome.

Oldfield's Hut
Oil on Canvas 24x12 PRIVATE COLLECTION
The movie 'Man From Snowy River' was filmed in the Victorian highlands in Australia. This painting is of an old pioneers hut in the Victorian highlands. What attracted me to this painting was the tree. I really get off on trees! And this one is spectacular.

"CHARLIE'S BENCH"
PRIVATE COLLECTION
Oil 24 x 16 on canvas board
This was a 'legacy painting' (click for more photos) now hanging in Alabama for 90 year old Charlie who rides this bike track frequently. There are places and things that are dear to us personally for many reasons, this humble bench means a lot to Charlie who biked across America after his wife died, there meeting his future wife. The bench is a legacy of life events.
Lilly Pads
Acrylic on Canvas 20x16
This is an Australian bush scene that I painted at a Herman Pekel workshop.
"Surfs Up at Malibu"
PRIVATE COLLECTION
Acrylic on canvas 24x20
After a long snowy winter, one's mind begins to wander. Mine went here - beautiful Malibu beach. I would drive by this sight often in the year I spent in Los Angeles. The magnificently wide long sandy beaches, the blue sky, the pier and the glorious sunshine. Enjoy!

"Sun Valley Idaho"
PRIVATE COLLECTION
Oil on Canvas 36x24
Idaho is famous for it's sheer beauty. This painting depicts the entrance to a long established family resort. The family that has this painting had spent many annual holidays there.
Hidden Vale
Oil on Canvas 24 x 18 PRIVATE COLLECTION
The beauty of Australian bush just one hour from my hometown of Brisbane. What captured me about this scene is the massive Morton Bay Fig Tree outliving the rusted metal of man's creation.

"Anne with an E"
"Anne With an E" . Yes that's right, from Anne of Green Gables. So girly! But I love it! So here's the backstory. I started watching this new series and really loved it. The acting, the story and of course the beautiful scenery filmed in Nova Scotia. I simply took a screenshot off the trailer of the main farm and just had to paint it.

Bateman's Bay
Oil on canvas 24x12 PRIVATE COLLECTION
Australia has some of the most beautiful coastal scenery anywhere. I painted this at a John Wilson workshop. John is an amazing Australian artist who has inspired me greatly. To me some of the best painters in the world are Aussies. Sorry I'm a tad biased.

"Winter's Snow"
16x20 oil on canvas panel $480
This is a typical scene I drive past every day here in beautiful Tri Cities Washington. Even though it's overcast a lot through winter, the clouds remain high and the sky big. The result is a beautiful light that lights up the snow so that even at night time it kind of glows. It's pretty magical apart from having to shovel the driveway!

"Spitfire Over Dover"
Oil on canvas. This is for a private collector in New Zealand who collects war memorabilia.
Eucalyptus Morning
Oil on canvas 20x16. PRIVATE COLLECTION
There's nothing like the smell of eucalyptus trees early in the morning.

The Billabong
20x16 Acrylic on canvas. PRIVATE COLLECTION
This particular painting was done at a workshop with the great Herman Pekel. Its one of my favorite styles done very impressionistic but wonderfully captures the subject of Australian bush with it's wispy gums and billabongs which is an aboriginal term for a water hole.
Old Church Road
Oil on canvas 72x36 PRIVATE COLLECTION
I was driving past this scene outside a little town called Wondai in country Queensland. There were a few things that caught my eye and I had to stop and take pictures. First was the magnificent Jacaranda trees. They only bloom for about 4 weeks in October and they were the oldest and fullest Jacarandas I had ever seen. The purple against the blue sky is somewhat magic. The other was the church, the old country church that had stood there for 150 years and nothing in this scene has changed since. Then there was the wide open wheat fields to the left. I had completed this huge painting but there was something missing until i painted in the women which immediately placed the scene back 100 years.

Malibu Rail
Oil on Canvas 24X16 PRIVATE COLLECTION
I was driving the Pacific Coast road just heading north of Los Angeles passing through the last few miles of Malibu. The train runs right between the beach and the highway. I took a photo sitting on the railway lines. I love the long narrowing perspective, the Californian colors and flora and the hazy sun breaking through the very unusual yet very regular marine layer of southern California. It's meant to capture a sense of adventure, the railway lines tauntingly questioning you "where would you like to go..."

Australian coastal scenery
Happy Valley
Oil On Canvas 28 x 16 PRIVATE COLLECTION
This is the view from my best friend's lounge room in Portland Oregon. The old farm house, the magnificent pine trees and Mt. Hood in the background. The indescribable beauty of the North West!
Boonah
Oil on Canvas 24x18 PRIVATE COLLECTION
Boonah is a small country town about an hour outside my hometown of Brisbane, Queensland. This painting also captures the iconic old house style know as a Queenslander. Wrap-around verandahs and outhouses are a common feature. They were built for the hot humid weather and lifted up on posts for stroage undderneath and protection from floods.
"Winn Homestead"
Private Collection
Oil on board
Freinds were married here and asked me to paint a picture of the wedding location. It sure was stunning. Outside a little town called Weston, Oregon, this grand old barn has been converted to a wedding venue. My goal was to capture the spring season with beautiful bold wildflowers.
The Meeting House
Oil on Canvas 24x16 PRIVATE COLLECTION
I was travelling through Amish country in Pennsylvania when I came across this little church that was still active today among the Amish. It was late afternoon and I was struck by the sheer beauty of it's location in a small rural town called Homeville. As i stood there just taking it all in, watching the Amish go by in horse and cart, I was transported back in time and had a strange feeling that there was something here that was lacking in today's world. Community! The sign out the front said "friends meeting house". Just this little house like place where you would come and meet with friends. A gathering place! A safe place! Not hard nor difficult. Just simple. "Come as you are, you are accepted". Isn't that in one form or another what we are all looking for? There's something to learn from everyone.
